Classification Essay

As with the descriptive essay, begin by brainstorming. Come up with a list of possible subjects. Choose one, then start to jot down everything you can think of. Next, write a rough draft, and then edit and revise for spelling, grammar, organization.

This essay can be humorous, if you wish. This is a chance to be lighthearted, in a grammatically correct way, of course.

In this essay, I want to see you build on what we've worked on so far.

1) This essay will have a divided thesis sentence. (thesis exercise, example: The bore, the brag, the flirt -- these are the three types of people I usually meet at parties.)

2) The thesis sentence will be parallel. (parallel exercise)

3) The introduction will be attention-getting. (introduction exercise)

4) Also, you will use descriptive writing (description essay) to describe each one of the categories in the classification essay.
