PASSIVE VOICE: ACTIVITY 1
One thing to remember: passive is a matter of structure, not of time. Do not confuse passive with past.
Rewrite the following sentences,changing passive voice to active.
1.Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to an unprecedented fourth term.
2.American citizens had voted for him in record numbers.
3.Parental discretion is advised by the television networks.
4.The Cowboys have lost only one road game this year.
5.They were beaten by the Washington Redskins in Washington.
6.Bill White's article will be published next month.
7.An award was presented to the man who had been considered the best in his field.
8.Shoddy workmanship is resented by the buyer when it is discovered by him.
9.Like all great leaders, Lincoln was hated by many; like most great leaders, he rose above bitterness.
10.The grasshoppers were destroying the leaves of the newly planted bushes.
Change passive verbs into active verbs in the following sentences. Use the space below each sentence to re-write if necessary.
