#5-How does the battle between reason and passion affect Phaedra? How does she handle the struggle within her? Phaedra's lust for Hippolytus was wrong and she knew it. She was in constant mental turmoil and frustration trying to conceal her passions for Hippolytus. Once Oenone told Phaedra of Theseus' death, Phaedra seemed to lose control of any logical thought process and let her feelings take over. After she told Hippolytus about her love, she realized what a terrible mistake she had made in a moment of pure passion and desperation. The desperation turned from innocent to wanting Aricia dead. It is common for people to let there feelings take over the mind like a craving. I must admit it has happend to me. Those moments may not be the highlight of a person's life, but a normal mentally stable person would not turn to such drastic measures as Phaedra did.
