Charles was a good guy, but in all reality was a sucker when it came to his love for Emma. He was a good husband in the aspect of being loving, hardworking, and compromising when it came to certain things. However, his contentment for life was the direct opposite of what Emma desired. Her thought of romance and love were way off from a realistic relationship standpoint. I can relate to her in the sense of always wanting more and more; not wanting to settle. Emma is mostly to blame for her disshonesty with charles in the area of cheating/lying to him, but he didn't exactly do anything to hurt her chances of getting away with all that she did. Charles let her go to lessons which helped her continue a love affair. If he would have opened his eyes a little more, and not have been so naive, maybe he wouldnt have ended up the way he did. Poor guy.
