Basic Police Academy

 

The Basic Police Academy is a training program certified by the Texas Commission on Law enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Completion of the Basic Academy is required in order to be licensed and hired as a Peace Officer in Texas. The Collin County Law Enforcement Academy at Collin College in McKinney, Texas offers the Basic Academy in two formats, full-time and part-time programs. Both Academy formats have the same 775 hour content, testing and completion requirements.

The full-time intensive format is primarily for those students who have been hired by and are sponsored by a law enforcement agency. Full-time classes are offered two to three times each year dependent on agency needs.

Normal class hours for the full-time program:
                                                Monday-Thursday 1:00 to 10:00pm
                                                Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm

The part-time format is offered once per year. Tentative scheduled class hours for the part-time program:
                                                Monday - Thursday 6:30pm to 10:30pm
                                                (1) - 8 hour Saturday class a month
