Lab-2: Left Brain Right Brain Test (13
Points)
![]()
Researcher studying the human brain have determined some subtle, but noticeable differences in the functions and processing style of the left and right hemispheres of the cerebral cortex of the brain. And the theory is that most people have a side (either left or right) of the cerebral cortex that the favor when processing information about their worlds. It's sort of like your handedness preference. If you are right handed, you can use your left hand to do many tasks, but movements just come more easily for your right hand. Further, the side of your brain that you seem to prefer is believed to influence (but not determine) certain features of your personality.
In this lab activity, you will be taking a test that not only will help you learn which side of your brain you tend to favor, but also, whether your style of cognitive processing is auditory or visual.

Thanks: The Brain Works software is brought to you courtesy of the fine folks at Mindmedia / Synergistic Learning, Inc. If you wish, please feel free to visit their site for many other self assessment products which may be purchased through the site. |
Step 2:
After opening the test file (brain.exe), follow the directions and complete the test.
IMPORTANT: Instead of entering your name on the introduction page of the brain.exe program, enter the number 50. If you enter your name and not the number 50, you will only be given a 20 question test that will likely produce results with lowered validity. So don't enter your name, simply enter the number 50 and nothing else in the name box.
After completing the test, the program will show you a diagram of the left and right hemispheres of the brain and indicate your left - right preference, as well as your auditory - visual preference.
Click the "Personal Evaluation" box to read a detailed description of your brain style and how it affects your daily life. Keep in mind, this is usually a two page document and you will likely need to click the "next" box to read the second page of your analysis.
It is strongly recommended that you print both pages of your "Personal Evaluation" for future reference in completing the lab write-up questions below.
If you wish, you can go back through each question of your test and the program will explain what your answer to each question means and what the alternative answers mean as well.
Step 3:
Answer the discussion questions below. Send your discussion question answers through the Blackboard/CE6 assignment drop box.
